In the absence of a federal Clean Air Act in Australia, responsibility for air quality regulation falls to state and territory Environmental Protection Authorities (EPAs), resulting in uneven protections. In some parts of Australia there are no limits on hazardous pollutants and no monitoring of air toxins, with some of the most toxic substances from fossil fuels going unmeasured and unaddressed. This puts our health at risk.
The Climate and Health Alliance will lead a national campaign for a federal ‘Clean Air Act’ that is capable of protecting Australians from stationary and mobile pollution from all range of sources, and ensuring Australians can breathe clean air now and in the future. Using health sector activation, public engagement and political advocacy, ‘The Air We Share’ is a bold national campaign tieing together Australia’s collective experience of air pollution to win a national solution for protection.
